Thothanna has few main target groups

1.Children

Thothanna gives her priority to the children who are living in marginalized areas specially in the dry zones of the country.

We believe that the childhood follows the life of the man as a shadow throughout his/her lifetime.. A good shadow will influence the man in a good way. So we believe that our responsibility is to grant the children a good childhood.

Mainly we organize the children in child groups and guide them to act collectively. We network the children groups as Udara Child Federation. We propose 4 ps to act with the children; Priority. Provision, Protection and Participation. We never believe the children as passive beneficiaries but as active member of the society. So we encourage the children to contribute the progress of their families and the society. We use the spaces in the process of the education to join with the children.

In 2009 our child group representatives prepared 10 principals (Values) for an Udara Sri Lanka Citizen. From that all our child development programs are base on those principals

Our main activities with / for the children

1. Animate child groups through a trained volunteer animator.

2. Grant awareness workshops, sessions, exhibitions and camps for improvement leadership, readership, art appreciation and social integration. .

3. Mobile Mini Library System to grant the availability of books for the children at their own villages.

4. Malmahima cultural festival to display collectively the art talents of the children. That function is organized with the participation of the children as the top event of the child group activities of the year.

5. Annual tree planting campaign to improve the ambitions, self confidence and citizenship of the children while they participate to increase the tree population of the area to reduce the climate change effects and improve the food security.

6. Produce and develop media recourses for the children. Under that we publish a children’s supplementary of women’s newspaper, produce video and audio recourses and books in Sinhalese Tamil and English.
